At Long Last, Check Out Our Beautiful New Mac Lab!
We are very happy and proud about our brand new Mac lab of sixteen computers in the library, plus an additional one in every classroom. Teachers are now starting to incorporate their classroom computers into their everyday curriculums, and 4-8th grade teachers have been bringing their classes to the library lab to do research for projects and other assignments.
Let's Hear It for Ivy!
Our fabulous school secretary, Ivy Chan, does double duty and works overtime (literally) as the school's tech person. In the past Macs haven't been her thing, but she's learning fast and doing an excellent job of setting up and maintaining the new computers. Additionally, she, librarian Tawnya Dudash and middle school algebra teacher Susi Brennan are taking several days worth of extensive training through the district about new resources and software for use with the new Macs. They will be sharing this knowledge with teachers at professional development meetings so that everyone can take advantage of all these new resources.
The Future
To prepare our students to succeed in today's world, they must be technologically astute and information literate. We are beginning to offer regular opportunities to integrate technology and information literacy into the daily schedule, but we still have a long way to go. As of now, SF Community lacks the funding to provide more opportunities, such as regular computer classes, to our students. But maybe you can help! If you have the time and knowledge to contribute toward securing funding through grants and other sources, please contact the school.
